5 Reasons To Visit Banff In Spring

We think springtime in Banff National Park is totally underrated. Here’s why:

  1. Beat the Crowds

Banff is amazing in all seasons, but it can get busy around the holidays and in July and August. A spring time trip lets you experience the town and the park at its relaxed best, the way the locals do.

  1. Ski until Summer

You can ski in Banff National Park until almost the end of May (yes, May!) and some of the best temperatures and biggest powder dumps come in March and early April. As the days warm up, the hills come alive with patio dining and fun events like the Brewski Festival at Lake Louise. When you stay at the Juniper, you can pre-book your ski tickets to collect at check-in, then head straight for the lifts in the morning!

  1. Nature is waking up

Spring is a great time for wildlife watchers. As the seasons change, large mammals head for the thawing valley floor in search of food, while many different species of birds stop by as they make their return journey from the southern hemisphere. And of course, as the weather warms up, our local bears start to come out of hibernation. Bear 122, more commonly known as ‘The Boss’ is the biggest, hungriest grizzly in the local area. That means he’s usually the first out of his den sometime in March. Make sure to practice wildlife safety at any time of year: get tips from Parks Canada here.

  1. Get Great Rates

Peak season hasn’t quite started, so you can get some amazing spring deals in Banff on everything from tours to dining. Here at the Juniper, we’ve got rooms starting at just $99+tax for select mid-week dates in March; you can’t afford to miss out!

  1. Get the most Insta-worthy snaps

Okay, so it’s hard to take a bad picture in Banff National Park. But in the springtime the remaining snow creates a gorgeous contrast with the sunnier skies and emerging colours in the valley. As the temperature creeps up, you can shed a layer and display your mountain chic looks to their full potential, plus snap away to your heart’s content without your fingers freezing solid! The only problem will be remembering to take pictures, as you might be having too much fun…
